The magic fishbone
Charles Dickens's short fairy tale from Holiday Romance, reissued for children by Frederick Warne in London and New York in 1922 with colour plates by F. D. Bedford. The plates are muted watercolour interiors of a crowned but shabby royal household — dinner tables, candlelit firesides, curtained windows — each framed by a thin ruled border with corner scrollwork and a lettered caption, alongside a green laurel wreath and ribbon monogram page useful as a decorative frame or endpaper motif.
