Magnétisme et magnétothérapie
A French treatise on animal magnetism and magnetic healing written by the Hungarian count Ferencz Szapáry and sold from his own Paris address in 1854, addressed to physicians, mesmerists and the table-turning spiritualist public of the period. The plates are tinted lithographs: a dense allegorical frontispiece banding vignettes of Madonna-like figures, putti, serpents and fountains into an ornamental architecture around the motto "Quaere et invenies," and a soft-toned landscape of Napoleon's grave with weeping willows and a distant sailing ship, useful for emblematic frames, vine-and-scroll borders and moody vignette scenery.
