Man before metals
A popular prehistory survey by the French naturalist Nicolas Joly, issued in London by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner in 1902 for general readers and amateur archaeologists in the International Scientific Series. The plates are small wood engravings of chipped flint tools, axes and cores, each object isolated on white and modelled in dense parallel hatching with stippled and cross-hatched shadow, useful as cut-out silhouettes, texture studies, or line-engraved object spots.
