Manet and the French impressionists: Pissarro--Claude Monet--Sisley--Renoir--Berthe Morisot--Cézanne--Guillaumin
Théodore Duret's critical history of Manet and the Impressionist circle, translated by J. E. Crawford Flitch and published in Philadelphia by Lippincott in 1910 for English-reading collectors and students. The 31 plates are coarse halftone reproductions of paintings — garden gatherings, single standing figures, wooded riverbanks — with blown-out whites, clotted blacks and visible plate edges useful as grainy tonal texture.
