Maniliani Bononiensis monumenti historico-mystica lectio
A Latin antiquarian treatise of 1661 by the Bolognese scholar Alessandro Negri, printed in Bologna by the heirs of Duccio, interpreting the mythological imagery and inscriptions of a Roman funerary stele for learned readers and dedicated to Cardinal Mazarin. The plates combine an engraved dedication scene of clouds, putti and a laurel wreath enclosing a caduceus with woodcut emblem devices carrying motto ribbons and a set of foliate initials inhabited by small human figures.
