Manly Palmer Hall collection of alchemical manuscripts, 1500-1825
A bound group of European alchemical and Hermetic manuscripts gathered by collector Manly P. Hall, dating from roughly 1500 to 1825 and including texts tied to Jakob Böhme, Sigismond Bacstrom and Cagliostro, made for adepts and initiates. The plates are unshaded pen-and-ink emblems: personified sun and moon, radiating stars, crowned kings enthroned, chained devils, many-headed dragons and serpents winding through rock-strewn streams.
