Manly Palmer Hall collection of alchemical manuscripts, 1500-1825
A collection of handwritten alchemical manuscripts dated roughly 1500–1825, gathered by the American occult writer Manly Palmer Hall and now at the Getty Research Institute, copied and annotated by practicing alchemists and their students. The images are small pen-and-ink marginal sketches washed in red and brown, showing athanor furnaces, cucurbits, retorts and flasks with flames, dotted vapour trails and hatched shading beside the scribe's notes.
