A gathering of European alchemical, Hermetic and Masonic manuscripts dated roughly 1500–1825, assembled by the American occult writer Manly P. Hall and now held at the Getty Research Institute. The plates here are binder's marbled endpapers in scarlet and black, combed and swirled into feathered curls and spatter pools that yield ready-made backgrounds, cover papers and high-contrast texture fills.
