Manly Palmer Hall collection of alchemical manuscripts, 1500-1825
A gathering of European alchemical, Hermetic and Masonic manuscripts copied between about 1500 and 1825, assembled by the occult writer Manly Palmer Hall and now at the Getty Research Institute, made for practitioners and collectors of esoteric learning rather than for print. The pictures here are close crops of pen-and-ink handwriting: looping capitals, doubled-back flourishes, ruled guide lines and faint script on aged paper, useful as calligraphic ornament, script textures and monogram forms.
