Manners and monuments of prehistoric peoples
A survey of prehistoric archaeology by the Marquis de Nadaillac, translated by N. D'Anvers and published by G.P. Putnam's Sons in New York and London in 1892 for general readers and amateur antiquarians. The 115 wood-engraved figures show flint hand-axes, scrapers and blades drawn with dense cross-hatching, incised bone and antler carvings of animals, and megalithic sites, giving designers isolated silhouetted objects with strong tonal shading against blank grounds.
