A manual for the study of the sepulchral slabs and crosses of the middle ages
Edward Lewes Cutts compiled this 1849 London handbook for the Royal Archaeological Institute, cataloguing medieval English sepulchral slabs and grave crosses for antiquaries and church restorers. Engraved plates show tapering coffin lids incised with foliated crosses, swords, chalices, shears and Lombardic inscriptions, each shaded against plain ground and captioned by parish, useful as line ornament, emblem stock and lettering reference.
