The manual of heraldry : being a concise description of the several terms used, and containing a dictionary of every designation in the science. Illustrated by four hundred engravings on wood
A pocket-sized English heraldry manual published in London by Arthur Hall, Virtue & Co., defining armorial terms for antiquarians, students and genealogists, with four hundred wood engravings keyed to the dictionary entries. The cuts are small line-engraved shields showing tinctures as hatching and stipple, ordinaries, charges such as swords, portcullises, fleurs-de-lis and trefoils, useful as crisp black-and-white emblem stock and pattern fills.
