Marmion; a tale of Flodden Field.
Walter Scott's verse romance of Flodden Field, issued in London by John Sharpe with plates engraved by John Pye, Francis Engleheart and Charles Heath after designs by Richard Westall, for readers of narrative poetry in the early nineteenth century. The engravings stage medieval scenes in deep shadow — a hooded palmer with a staff, an armoured knight slumped in a chair, a vaulted crypt lit by a hanging lamp, courtiers crowded behind a seated lutenist — giving designers stippled darks, arched stone interiors and strongly silhouetted cloaked figures.
