Mathematical tracts on the lunar and planetary theories, the figure of the earth, precession and nutation, the calculus of variations, and the undulatory theory of optics. Designed for the use of students in the university

Airy, George Biddell, Sir, 1801-1892 · 1831 · Cambridge, J. and J.J. Deighton ; London, J.G. & F. Rivington · 5 pictures

George Biddell Airy's 1831 textbook of mathematical tracts on lunar and planetary theory, the earth's figure, precession, the calculus of variations, and wave optics, published at Cambridge by Deighton for university students. The folding plates carry dense grids of numbered line diagrams — ellipses with inscribed axes, ray fans, spheroids, lettered triangles — usable as fine-lined geometric ornament or technical pattern fill.
