Matter, ether, and motion; the factors and relations of physical science
A physics treatise by Amos Emerson Dolbear, professor at Tufts, published in Boston by Lee and Shepard in 1892 for general readers and students following contemporary work on matter, ether, and energy. The wood engravings show laboratory apparatus in three-quarter view — telephone receivers and horns on turned pedestals, induction coils, static machines with glass plates and brass knobs, coiled wire leads trailing across hatched tabletops — with letter keys and strong line shading useful for cut-out instrument motifs.
