Nathaniel Bowditch's annotated English translation of Laplace's Mécanique céleste, published in Boston in 1829 for astronomers and mathematicians. The plates are numbered line diagrams in fine engraved outline: circles, ellipses, arcs and spherical triangles crossed by dotted construction lines and labelled with italic letters, useful as geometric ornament, endpaper pattern or technical texture.
