Mécanique céleste

Laplace, Pierre Simon, marquis de, 1749-1827, Bowditch, Nathaniel, 1773-1838, Bowditch, N. I. (Nathaniel Ingersoll), 1805-1861 · 1829 · Boston, Hillard, Gray, Little, and Wilkins · 10 pictures

Nathaniel Bowditch's annotated English translation of Laplace's Mécanique céleste, published in Boston in 1829 for astronomers and mathematicians. The plates are line diagrams of orbital geometry: comet and Earth positions joined by radius vectors, ecliptic base lines, dotted projections and italic letter labels, useful as sparse technical linework or as ready-made geometric figures for overlays.
