Robert Schindler self-published The Mechanics of the Moon in Lucerne in 1906, addressing astronomers and astrophysicists with his own theory of lunar formation. The plates are halftone reproductions of telescopic lunar photographs, tightly cropped on crater fields, terraced ringwalls and mare edges, giving designers high-contrast grainy grey textures and pitted surface patterns.
