Medici lace and the art of making it
An instruction manual on Medici lace by Louise W. Portier, published around 1908 in New York for needleworkers making collars, yokes and table linens at home. Pattern plates alternate photographs of finished lace against black grounds with fine line drawings of collars, cuffs, rosette doilies and centerpieces, giving designers radial star motifs, scalloped and pointed edgings, and openwork filling textures usable as borders or stencil-like ornament.
