William Salmon's Medicina practica (London, 1692) is an English handbook of practical physick for apothecaries and physicians, bound with translated alchemical tracts by Hermes Trismegistus, Jabir ibn Hayyan (Geber) and Artephius. The engraved plates run in captioned registers: arcaded niches holding flasks, brick furnaces with alembics and perforated lids, and robed figures, winged angels and a crowned sphinx keyed to chapter references.
