Memoirs illustrative of the art of glass-painting
Posthumously collected essays by Charles Winston, a barrister and antiquarian student of medieval stained glass, issued by John Murray in London in 1865 for architects, glaziers and church antiquaries. The wood-engraved plates and vignettes reproduce details of painted glass — blackletter monograms on shields, quatrefoil-linked roundels, crowned initials with scrolling foliage — in flat black-and-white line suited to reuse as monogram frames, borders and decorative caps.
