Vincenzo Fortunato Marchese, a Dominican friar, compiled these Italian-language biographies of Dominican painters, sculptors and architects, published in Florence by A. Parenti in 1848 for clergy, scholars and readers of church art history. Illustration is sparse outline engraving: hooded friars drawn in fine contour and cross-hatching, alongside oval and triangular library ownership stamps useful as ready-made seals, monastic head studies and lettered badge shapes.
