Metsu
A 1906 Boston monograph on the Dutch genre painter Gabriel Metsu, issued by Bates and Guild for art students and picture collectors as a plate-and-text portfolio. The halftone reproductions show interior scenes in heavy tone: figures writing at curtained windows, women with lapdogs, soldiers and servants, patterned carpets and tiled floors, useful for dark ground textures and seventeenth-century costume silhouettes.
