Francesco Scannelli's Il microcosmo della pittura, a two-book Italian treatise on painting printed at Cesena by Neri in 1657 for artists, collectors and learned readers. The plates indexed here are typographic ornaments rather than illustrations: small woodcut winged cherub heads with scrolled feather tips, printed heavily and repeated at different sizes, useful as rough-edged relief-cut spot decoration, section breaks or period-correct headpieces.
