The Microscope
A monthly microscopy journal issued at Ann Arbor, Michigan, from 1881, written for amateur and working microscopists comparing specimens, slides and instruments. The figures are small pen and stipple drawings of what the lens shows: bundled fibers, honeycombed cell walls, clustered starch grains, branching capillary nets printed white on black, useful as abstract textures, repeat motifs and organic linework.
