Henry Baker's 1742 London handbook on microscopes, printed for R. Dodsley, explaining lens powers and instrument use to amateur observers and gentleman naturalists, and cataloguing early discoveries made with the glass. Plates mix labelled line engravings of tissue sections, crystals, salts and animalcules with a woodcut headpiece of scrollwork framing a portrait bust, useful for hatched geometric solids, lettered diagram keys and small specimen silhouettes.
