Haecht Goidtsenhoven, Laurens van, fl. 1600, Zeter, Jacobus de, ill · 1644 · Francofurti : Apud Iacobu[m] de Zetter · 75 pictures

A Latin emblem book by the Antwerp writer Laurens van Haecht Goidtsenhoven, issued at Frankfurt in 1644 by Jacob de Zetter, who also supplied the plates, for Latin-reading collectors of moral and proverbial wisdom. The 76 small horizontal copperplate engravings set one or two figures acting out a proverb in open countryside with hills, towns and single trees, drawn in fine parallel hatching that leaves skies blank; useful for gestural figure poses, period dress, and compact landscape vignettes.
