Mikrokosmos = Parvvs mvndvs
Mikrokosmos, or Parvus mundus, is a Latin emblem book of moralizing verses issued by the Antwerp printseller Gerard de Jode in 1579, with text compiled by Laurens van Haecht Goidtsenhoven for educated readers of emblems and proverbs. The 77 small copperplate engravings, each keyed by a single letter, set biblical, mythological and everyday figures in shallow landscapes with distant towns, bridges and windswept trees, giving designers muscular nude and robed figures, gesturing crowds, hatched skies and clean plate borders that crop well as vignettes.
