A German popular survey of microscopy by physician Hermann Klencke, published by J. J. Weber in Leipzig in 1853 for lay readers curious about the microscopic world. The 209 wood engravings are small, lettered line studies of fungal hyphae, spore chains, sporangia and plant sections, drawn with fine hatching on open ground and usable as isolated diagram motifs.
