Miniatures, ancient and modern

Davenport, Cyril, 1848-1941 · 1908 · Chicago : A.C. McClurg · 46 pictures

A survey of portrait miniature painting and enamelwork by Cyril Davenport, bibliographer and British Museum keeper, published in Chicago by A.C. McClurg in 1908 for collectors and students of the decorative arts. The plates are halftone reproductions of oval and round miniatures, mostly head-and-shoulders portraits in wigs, lace collars and loose gowns, printed with soft tonal gradations against dark grounds; useful for oval vignette frames, period costume detail, and vintage portrait silhouettes.
