The mirror of alchimy
A 1597 London printing by Richard Olive of alchemical treatises attributed to Roger Bacon, issued in English for practitioners and readers of natural philosophy. The pictures are the book's typographic furniture: square woodcut initials filled with white-line vine scrolls, and pen-drawn flourishes added by an early owner — useful for period drop caps, border strips and manuscript-style ink squiggles.
