A Dublin twelves edition of Joseph Addison's collected verse and prose, printed by R. Reilly in 1735 with Thomas Tickell's account of the author's life, sold to general readers of English letters. The plates are letterpress headpiece ornaments: symmetrical acanthus scrollwork with rosettes flanking oval medallions that hold a profile bust, a winged cherub head, crossed trumpets or facing birds, usable as rule-width banners, cartouche frames and repeating scroll units.
