Duell, Prentice · 1919 · Tucson, Ariz. Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society · 46 pictures

An architectural study of San Xavier del Bac and the Spanish colonial missions of the Southwest, written by Prentice Duell and published in 1919 by the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society in Tucson for antiquarians, architects, and local historians. The plates are halftone photographs of mission churches seen mostly in three-quarter view: domed and twin-towered facades, arcaded corridors, buttressed adobe walls, and ruins in open scrub, with heavy grain and flattened grey skies useful as silhouettes, texture, or building-shape reference.
