Coulomb's collected memoirs on electricity and magnetism, issued in Paris by Bachelier in 1789 with plates drawn by Fossier and engraved by Le Gouaz and Adam, addressed to physicists and instrument makers of the French academic world. The plates combine line-engraved laboratory apparatus \u2014 torsion balances, tripod-mounted spheres, clamp stands, needles on pivots \u2014 with thin geometric ray and force diagrams, all numbered Fig. 1 to Fig. 5 and floating on blank paper, useful as precise mechanical line art or diagram scaffolding.
