Modern bookbindings, their design and decoration
A survey of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century binding design by Sarah Treverbian Prideaux, herself a London binder, published by Archibald Constable in 1906 for collectors, binders and students of the applied arts. The plates are photographs of tooled leather covers and spines, showing foliate scrollwork, strapwork interlace, panelled frames and blind-stamped grounds in high-contrast gold-on-dark tonality, useful for borders, frames, repeating ornament and cover layouts.
