Modern book-plates and their designers
A survey of contemporary bookplate design issued as a special number of The Studio in London in 1898, edited by Gleeson White with essays by Octave Uzanne, Jean Carré and Hans Wolfgang Singer, addressed to collectors and designers of ex libris. The 174 plates are small black-and-white line blocks — lettered EX LIBRIS banners, heraldic cartouches, Art Nouveau maidens among irises, still lifes of books, lamps, guitars and skulls — usable as monogram frames, borders, name panels and hand-drawn display lettering.
