The modern chess instructor
A chess manual by world champion William (Wilhelm) Steinitz, published in New York by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1889 for club and match players studying openings. The scanned pages are dense letterpress annotation blocks in English chess notation, broken by horizontal rules, numbered note headings and small caps, with foxing and ink stains on aged paper; useful as typographic texture, notation fragments, and rule-divided column layouts.
