Modern etching and engraving
A special number of the London art magazine "The Studio," edited by Charles Holme and issued in 1902 for print collectors and practising etchers, surveying contemporary European and American etching, drypoint and engraving. The plates are halftone reproductions of prints grouped by country, one or two to a page with printed captions and wide margins: wooded riverbanks, bare trees, harbours and quays, beer gardens and street crowds, rendered in dense drypoint scribble or thin open line, useful as ready-made texture, sky hatching and tonal backgrounds.
