Monasterii Sanctae Mariae et Sanctorum Johannis et Pauli de Casaemario brevis historia
A Latin history of the Cistercian abbey of Casamari, compiled by Filippo Rondinini with plates by the engravers Francesco Faraone Aquila and Francesco Bufalini, printed in Rome by Francesco Gonzaga in 1707 for ecclesiastical and antiquarian readers. The sampled pages are square woodcut initials in heavy black line: letters set against hatched skies, feathery trees, farmhouses and hill towns with tiny figures, or framed by acanthus scrolls and putti, offering ready-made drop caps and small landscape vignettes.
