An Italian emblem encyclopedia by the Milanese Augustinian Filippo Picinelli, printed by Francesco Vigone in Milan in 1669 and expanded for preachers, writers and scholars hunting symbols and mottoes. Engraved oval emblems set in scrolled cartouches show landscapes with a sun, ripening grain, a birdcage and Latin mottoes on ribbons, alongside woodcut initials filled with figures, clouds and animals.
