Monumenti antichi inediti
Johann Joachim Winckelmann's two-volume catalogue of previously unpublished ancient monuments in Roman collections, chiefly Cardinal Alessandro Albani's, printed at the author's expense in Rome in 1767 for antiquarians, collectors and artists. Alongside plates of reliefs and gems come engraved and woodcut headpieces, tailpieces and vignettes: grotesque bands of half-figure women ending in foliate scrolls, nude youths hanging fruit swags above a fluted vase, a lidded funerary urn set in bushes, and a rococo cartouche of arms and trumpets.
