Emblemas morales de don Ivan de Horozco y Couarruuias..
A Spanish emblem book, Juan de Horozco y Covarrubias's Emblemas morales, printed at Segovia by Juan de la Cuesta in 1589 for educated readers who read pictures as moral lessons. The plates sampled here are typographic ornaments rather than emblems: symmetrical woodcut tailpieces built from volutes, stepped cornices, fluted bands, ball finials and a fan-shaped crest, usable as chapter closers, rules and heading furniture.
