Mordvalaisten pukuja kuoseja. Trachten und Muster der Mordvinen
An ethnographic folio of Mordvin costume and embroidery patterns recorded by the Finnish archaeologist Axel Olai Heikel and published in Helsinki in 1896 for scholars of Finno-Ugric material culture. The plates are counted-thread charts on gridded ground, worked in red, black, green and gold: cross-stitch diamonds, hooked meanders, stepped borders and repeating band motifs that can be lifted directly as tiles, rules and geometric ornament.
