The mottoes and commentaries of Friedrich Froebel's Mother play
An English translation of Friedrich Fröbel's Mutter- und Koselieder, the German kindergarten founder's verses and finger-games for mothers, issued by Appleton in New York in 1902 for teachers and parents. The wood-engraved plates set each rhyme inside a leafy or architectural border, with village scenes, nursery tasks and small vignettes of hands in the margins, useful for framing devices and page borders.
