Mrs. Gaugain's crochet D'Oyley book : [No. I-III]

Gaugain, Mrs. (Jane) · 1846 · Edinburgh : I.J. Gaugain; London, Ackerman · 21 pictures

A crochet pattern manual by Jane Gaugain, published in Edinburgh and London in 1846 for needleworkers making doileys and table mats at home. Each plate is a wood-engraved circular doiley seen flat, built from concentric rings of chain loops, shells and picot edging around a small rosette centre, giving designers a stock of radial lace rosettes, mandala grids and scalloped borders in dense line texture on toned paper.
