Mundi lapis lydius, siue, Vanitas per veritat falsi accusata & conuicta
An emblem book by the Flemish cleric Antoine de Bourgogne, printed in Antwerp in 1639 by the widow of Jan Cnobbaert with copperplates by Andries Pauli, addressed to readers weighing worldly vanity against truth. The 74 plates sit in oval and octagonal ruled frames and show ruined masonry overgrown with vines, panelled interiors with carved chimneypieces and tiled floors, cloaked figures in duels or conversation, and coastal views with towers and small ships, all in fine parallel-line etching useful for frames, stage-like interiors and landscape vignettes.
