A fourth portfolio of old German linen embroidery patterns compiled by Julius Lessing, director of Berlin's Kunstgewerbemuseum, and issued by F. Lipperheide in 1888 for needleworkers, designers and museum copyists. Plates reproduce counted cross-stitch and darned worksheets in dark thread on open linen ground, giving grid-based geometric repeats, stylised flowers, birds and borders that translate directly into pixel patterns and tiling motifs.
