M. Vitrvvii Pollionis De architectura libri decem
The Latin text of Vitruvius's ten books on architecture as edited and annotated by Daniele Barbaro, printed in Venice in 1567 by Francesco de' Franceschi with woodcuts cut by Giovanni Chrieger after drawings associated with Palladio, made for architects and humanist readers. The woodcuts are hard-line technical diagrams — temple and theatre plans, wall sections with hatched masonry, octagonal wind towers, columns and entablatures, geometric construction lines, hoisting machines and sundials — giving designers ready-made plan geometry, hatching patterns and measured architectural ornament.
