Heinrich Schliemann's 1878 excavation report on Mycenae and Tiryns, issued in New York by Scribner, Armstrong for archaeologists and educated readers following his Greek digs. Plates group numbered potsherds and gold ornaments against plain or black grounds: painted spirals, chevrons, concentric arcs, dot rows and plant motifs, plus repoussé discs — a source of fragmentary geometric pattern and Aegean ornament.
