My chums in caricature, a burlesque gallery

Williams, Wilbur Herschel, 1874-1935 · 1909 · Chicago, A. C. McClurg & co. · 5 pictures

A 1909 amusement manual by Wilbur Herschel Williams, published in Chicago by A. C. McClurg, showing parlor entertainers how to build burlesque portraits from cut newspaper comics, paste and scissors. The plates mix stark pen-line vignettes of tools — scissors, a labelled paste jar, a lamp against a solid black disc, hands slicing a comic page — with limited-colour figure drawings in green and flesh tints of a slumped man on two chairs.
